Bulk Data Centers takes full ownership of Oslo data center OS-IX and plans expansion

(Oslo, 19 January, 2022) Bulk Data Centers, one of the leading data center providers in the Nordics, takes full ownership of Oslo based data center OS-IX after purchasing the remaining 50 per cent from Akershus Energi. Bulk is already working on expanding the OS-IX capacity and will have 1.5 MW of new whitespace available in autumn 2022.

Bulk customers will benefit from being able to expand their presence in a data center close to Oslo city center, that is powered by renewable energy and with unmatched connectivity.

“Acquiring the final 50 per cent of OS-IX is a natural step in Bulk’s strategy to scale a pan-Nordic platform of sustainable data centers. With 100 per cent ownership of all our Nordic data center assets we have strategic flexibility to take this platform to the next level," says Jon Gravråk, CEO at Bulk Infrastructure Group.

“Taking full ownership control of OS-IX is important for our business going forward, and we are already expanding capacity to meet customer demand. The first stage of our expansion plan will be completed in the summer, with 1.5 MW fresh white space. Our existing customers can have confidence in OS-IX, knowing there will be capacity to grow their new and existing platforms. Our new customers will get access to Norway’s best connected data center operating on 100 per cent renewable energy," says Gisle M. Eckhoff, Executive Vice President Data Centers at Bulk Infrastructure Group.

OS-IX is the most connected data center in Norway, with over 60 carriers present, giving customers the flexibility to make their data available across the globe. OS-IX is also the only data center close to Oslo with room to expand.

Bulk has worked closely with OS-IX co-owner Akershus Energi since 2014. As it takes full ownership, the companies will continue their cooperation within renewable energy solutions and infrastructure through a cooperation agreement.

Bulk delivers sustainable infrastructure to a global audience. Data centers use large amounts of energy for cooling, and this generates heat. Heat re-use is on top of the list of activities that will ensure more efficient energy utilisation. Bulk Data Centers are in the process of evaluating several alternative heat re-use solutions, to reduce environmental impact.
